Vestry Minutes – November 11, 2008

Present:  Father John Martin, Tammy Morgan, Fran Kramer, Bob White, Walt Marvel, Trina Zema, Karen DiPaolo, Louise Detwiler.  John Elliott (Search Committee).  Regrets: Jerry Rhoades

The meeting was opened with prayer, especially remembering those who are sick and/or in the hospital.

The usual order of business was set aside to hear a proposal from Sandy Lacy regarding the possibility of leasing space at St. John’s to run a pre-school.  There was much discussion and many questions to be answered.  It was agreed to have subcommittee made up of Vestry members and parishioners to do the research.  Fr. Martin, Bob and Fran will propose a group for the next meeting.  Sandy Lacy then left and we proceeded with the remaining portion of the meeting.

The minutes of the October meeting were accepted after making one correction:  Trina Zema did send regrets.

Treasurer’s Report:

Bob White repeated that our envelope giving is still falling behind.  The Treasurer’s Report was approved as presented.   We then discussed the budget for 2009. Bob will have copies of this final draft for passage at the December meeting.

Interim Rector:  Baptismal Standards – We will make copies of the policy for the congregation to read along with a note stating that these standards are what the Vestry would like.  Father Martin has been contacted by the Interboro Ministerium and he will try to attend their next meeting.  He will inform them that St. John’s will participate in the Good Friday service next year.

Rector’s Warden:  Fran reiterated the importance of the meeting on November 18 with Jill Mathis to discuss our progress and options as we search for a new rector.

COMMITTEE REPORTS

Parish Life/Outreach:  Karen reported that $61.00 was sent to the Seamen’s Institute.  We discussed various Christmas charities.  Karen will make a decision and place a notice in the December Evangelist.

Hospitality:  Trina said things are going pretty well; people are signing up for coffee hour.

Property:   The mold tests have to be checked two more times.  Modern Exterminating did their annual inspection and we have no termites.  Walt said the new “Welcome” signs should be here soon.  Also, he purchased black paint for the stove in the undercroft kitchen.

Memorial Garden – Walt is making a handbook that will include forms to fill out, policies and procedures, etc.  We then discussed our copy machine.  It is so old that we can’t get parts and it is constantly breaking down.  It was approved to have Fran talk to Glen about purchasing a new Sharp Digital Copier for $2,695, half down and the balance paid in 30 days.

Stewardship:  Bob will be having a meeting on Wednesday, December 17, 7:00 PM.

Old Business:  Forms for Vestry nominations (with requirements) will be placed in the Church.

New Business:  John Elliott stated the Red Cross Blood Drive will be Monday, February 2, 2009.

Trina is not sure if we have enough children for a Christmas Pageant but she will go ahead and order costumes.  She also stated that Hoagies will be sold on Super Bowl Sunday as a Youth Fundraiser.

Our meeting was ended with the Lord’s Prayer.  Next meeting is December 9th at 7:00 PM.

Respectfully submitted,

Louise Detwiler
